There were no injuries when a crane collapsed at Los Angelesā future NFL stadium on Friday.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles County Fire Department received a report of a crane collapsing shortly before 8 a.m. Friday. The crane was on the site of SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif. The $5 billion stadium will be the home of the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers, while it is also scheduled to host the 2022 Super Bowl, 2023 college football national championship, and the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2028 Summer Olympics.
The Fire Department reported no injuries, concluding that a stationary crane was hit by a moving crane, causing the former to fall into a dirt lot next to the stadium.
āThere are no injuries and only minor property damage however none to the stadium itself,ā said general contractor Turner AECOM Hunt Joint Venture in a statement, according to the Engineering News-Record. āTurner AECOM Hunt works extremely hard to create a safe work environment on site. A thorough investigation is underway. This incident will not impact our scheduled completion of the stadium.ā
A Taylor Swift concert is planned at the 70,000-seat venue in July, while the Rams and Chargers are scheduled to play preseason games in August. The construction process for the roughly 300-acre complex was delayed a year because of rain in 2018-19.
The Rams played at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum last season, while the Chargers played at the Dignity Health Sports Park. The new stadium is being built by Rams owner Stan Kroenke.
