A $24.3 million capital project, including new turf athletic fields and improvements at three schools, was approved Tuesday by voters in the Maryvale School District.

A new multi-purpose turf field at the stadium, along with turf softball and baseball infields and a fifth tennis court, are among new amenities approved for the district in Cheektowaga.

In addition, the project calls for HVAC, exterior, roofing, electrical and other general work at the high school, intermediate/middle school and primary school. Nearly 45 percent of the money is to be spent on work at the intermediate/middle school.

The vote was 147 in favor, 36 opposed. Voters also approved a second proposition establishing a new capital reserve fund.

District officials said the capital project will have no tax impact.
