Chestnut Hill, MA
S3 Design redesigned locker rooms for Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey. The renovations reorganized and expanded the locker rooms to provide a team lounge, team locker/meeting room, saunas, and coaches' offices. Enhancing player motivation and recruitment were goals of the design leading to highly customized lockers, illuminated logos and graphics highlighting the program’s history.
This study examined renovating and expanding the Edmunds Center to upgrade the facility to reflect the university’s athletic traditions, and provide a better venue for basketball and volleyball. The recommendations maximized the existing building aspects with selective additions to create a collegiate spectator experience from entry, ticketing, branding, views, spectator sequence and flow to concessions, restrooms, and acoustics.
This project is an adaptive re-use of a mid-century modern dining hall re-imagined and refreshed to transform it into a Wellness Center. The cantilevered entrance and new glass volumes update the building image to provide a welcoming and open environment that promotes the programs within to the campus community. The building received the Gold Design Award from Rhode Island Monthly in 2015. It also achieved LEED-Gold certification.
Associate Architect: Kite Architects
S3 Design worked with the University of Rochester on a planning and feasibility study to improve the historic Fauver Stadium. S3 Design then worked with Rochester to implement the first phase of the plan which included a new press box and concourse renovation. In collaboration with Ayers Saint Gross Architects, S3 continued to work on the second phase providing bridging documents for a hybrid building containing student life, student housing, and an athletics locker room and training facility.
