BRENTWOOD — A Rockingham County Superior Court judge has ordered the owner of CrossFit Affirmation in Newton to cease operations and pay a $46,000 fine for violating the state's consumer protection act and health club statute.

The court ruled that Thomas Lavigne had failed to register his club with the Attorney General's office, solicited memberships for a duration longer than one year, failed to disclose his membership liability, and didn't provide members with contracts containing statutorily required language, the Attorney General's office said in a statement.Lavigne was fined $10,000 for each violation, in addition to attorney fees and investigation costs.The court ordered him to stop accepting new memberships or operating until he is properly registered.
