The University of Texas System Board of Regents approved a $35 million funding plan Wednesday for UTSA’s basketball and volleyball training facility, with substantial completion targeted for August 2026.

The two-story, 50,000-square-foot project will house the Roadrunners men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball programs, offering practice courts, locker room space and coaching offices for each program, as well as shared strength and conditioning facilities.

The facility, announced as part of UTSA’s Bold Champions capital campaign in December 2021, will be located between the Roadrunners Athletics Center of Excellence and Barshop Boulevard on UTSA’s campus.

The project is set to be funded through $15 million in revenue financing system bond proceeds and $10 million in designated funds, as well as $10 million in grant funding from bonds, according to the UT System meeting agenda. The document notes that revenue financing system bond proceeds will be repaid from ticket sales.

A South Dakota community is opening its new $36.5 million ice arena.

In Watertown, the finishing touches are going up at the Prairie Lakes Ice Arena, as it prepares to host its first hockey games this weekend. For people who work at the ice complex, finally seeing the arena finished is very exciting.

The facility is made for hockey and figure skaters, but also reaches a wider range of people.

The city also approved plans to bring a National American Hockey League junior team to town.

  • A community ice arena project in Worthington, Minn., has more financial backing this week after the district's board of education voted to dedicate $5 million to the facility. The school board's $5 million commitment comes with a stipulation that the project is started within the next five years. The superintendent said that one stipulation of the contribution is that no money is used on the old arena.
