Aramco has revealed Populous’ designs for the Aramco Stadium and the surrounding masterplan in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia.

The new 47,000-seat venue will meet international standards and best practices for the world’s premier football competitions. It is scheduled to host games in the upcoming 2027 AFC Asian Cup and will be fully compliant with FIFA’s stadium requirements, meaning it would qualify to host World Cup matches up to the quarter-final stage.

Aramco Stadium is one of a number of Populous-designed venues included in the official list of potential venues for the 2034 World Cup, as published in the Saudi Arabia bid book on the 31st July. Populous has led the design of the stadium from the initial concept stage and will continue to oversee the project until its completion. [Populous]

Lexington Sporting Club is about to move into its new digs.

It’s been a time of rapid change for the professional soccer club, with a new pro women’s team set to debut later this month in the USL Super League and with the recent announcement that its pro men’s team will soon move up a level from USL League One to the USL Championship in 2025.

A major catalyst for both of these moves has been the construction of a new, 7,500-seat soccer-specific stadium in Lexington along Athens Boonesboro Road near Interstate 75.

The new stadium will host its first match Sept. 8, when the new LSC pro women’s soccer team hosts the Tampa Bay Sun. LSC is one of eight teams that will participate in the first season of the new USL Super League, a top-tier pro women’s soccer league that’s been sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation as a Division I league. Donors and board members of the Plover Whiting Youth Athletics broke ground Aug. 5 for a new addition at the Woyak Sports Complex in Plover.

The McCain Foods Hall of Fame Pavilion is part of a $1.3 million renovation project at the baseball and softball fields on Cedar Drive.

Andrew Halverson, executive vice president of Ellis Construction, talked about what people can expect when the pavilion is finished being constructed.

“It’s going to be a two story building which will prevent exposure to inclement weather,” Halverson said. “More importantly, it will provide fully handicap accessible viewing of two different fields for various sporting events on any given day.”
