Sacred Heart University men's and women's basketball teams kicked off their seasons in the newly-renovated William H. Pitt Athletics & Convocation Center with exciting home-opening victories.
The men's team defeated Central Connecticut State University 67-54, while the women’s team beat Monmouth University 63-56 in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
The 2,000-seat multipurpose venue, located at the heart of campus, underwent a comprehensive upgrade. It now features an 80-foot jumbotron, video boards and improved seating that brings fans closer to the action. The redesign enhances the fan experience and creates a dynamic environment for both student-athletes and spectators. [Fox 61]
The 175-by-450-foot covered West Arena will be directly north of an existing recreational vehicle park beside the Expo Center in Taylor. According to a Williamson County news release, the arena will accommodate for growth at existing events and support recreational vehicle park visitors.Amenities in the new facility will include:
- Restrooms and showers
- Two 8-by-28-foot covered picnic pavilions
- Expanded gravel parking
“In Williamson County, we don't build anything—I feel like—[that’s] large enough,” Precinct 4 County Commissioner Russ Boles said at the groundbreaking. “We have so much growth coming our way, but that's a pretty big building.” [Construction Impact]
The city of Brooksville celebrated the reopening of the renovated Tom Varn Stadium with a ribbon cutting Nov. 15.
The stadium is the home of the Hernando High School girls softball team and the Hernando County Youth League Softball.
Mayor Blake Bell welcomed guests, gave an account of stadium renovations, and introduced the event’s speakers.
Former Parks and Recreation Director David Pugh said the idea to renovate and reopen the stadium was shaped around giving children a fun place to play softball. [Suncoast News]
