Construction is set to begin this summer on the new mixed-use development on Block 5 in the Park East corridor, but it’s bigger and somewhat different than what was previously planned.

The 2.19-acre block between Juneau, McKinley and Phillips Avenues and King Drive will be nearly filled with a 340,000-square-foot building with 269 market-rate apartments; 13,000 square feet of street-level commercial space; a public plaza on the northeast corner (where there are utility easements); a 290-space parking structure; and an athletic training facility for MATC. The Maryland Lacrosse League (MDLL) has revealed plans to develop a state-of-the-art sports complex in Southern Anne Arundel County. The proposed facility aims to provide a comprehensive hub for athletes, families, and the local community. Though the exact location has yet to be finalized, MDLL stated that the Edgewater/Harwood area is their top spot.

The project will feature a cutting-edge turf field and an indoor facility, with MDLL also exploring additional amenities such as pickleball courts and golf simulators to expand the site’s appeal beyond traditional sports. The goal is to create a versatile venue that serves as both a center for athletic excellence and a gathering space for the community.

MDLL has already partnered with a physical therapy group that will offer on-site recovery and performance services for athletes. The league is now seeking 1-2, additional partners, such as local businesses or organizations, to help bring the project to fruition. [Eye On Annapolis]

A new 24-hour gym has opened in the North East, Stockton, creating more than 40 jobs.

The facility, in Stockton, is  the ninth JD Gym to open in the region - including one being in Darlington.

The new 'Stockton North' gym is next to the Tesco Extra on the town's Durham Road. Housed in the old Xercise4Less building, it opened at the end of December.

Xercise4Less Stockton North was the final location to be converted since The JD Gyms Group acquired the X4L business in 2020.

A spokesperson for the gym said: "The group have invested heavily into the Stockton North gym, completely overhauling the layout, décor, design, and providing brand new equipment throughout." [NE]
