Caddo Parish gets Preview of Proposed $70M Sports Complex
People in Caddo Parish got a preview Thursday night of plans for a proposed $70 million sports complex.
The parish wants to fund the project with a $60 million bond, but voters would have to approve it in November.
Supporters of the sports complex spoke at a Caddo Parish special meeting Thursday night.
“It’s an amazing opportunity not just for the city but for the kids as well most of the time you have to go out of state to Texas to Georgia to Mississippi to all these other different places to compete and play,” Victor Morris, basketball coach at Calvary Baptist Academy, said.
Cherokee Nation Celebrates Opening of New Facilities
Students at Sequoyah High School are getting new spaces to learn, compete and perform as Cherokee Nation continues a major investment in the school's campus.
Cherokee Nation leaders gathered on Tuesday to celebrate the grand opening of the school's new Academic Building and Multi-Purpose Facility.
The two projects are part of a $65 million Sequoyah High School Capital Improvement Plan signed by the Hoskin/Warner administration in late 2024.
The newly completed 51,635-square-foot Academic Building includes 20 classrooms, a media center, basketball court, pickleball courts and a courtyard.
Sequoyah High School senior and student council president Cameron Atwell said the new facilities represent an investment not only in current students, but in future generations.
City Council Approves $25M for New Indoor Sports Complex
The majority of Quincy City council members voted to authorize borrowing up to, but no more than $25 million, for the engineering, design and construction of the Quincy Sports Complex.
This resolution sets out specific terms. An ordinance must still be presented to the council, subject to three readings, followed by a final vote.
Still, it marks a milestone for the project and the efforts of the sports commission that began about a year ago.
“Thank you to the sports commission for getting us to this point,” Alderman Kelly Mays (R-Ward 3) said. “Really appreciate all the work. We probably spent about 14 months on this. It’s just the beginning. Thank you to Eastern Sport Management (consultant and complex manager) for your help so far. And a big thanks to David Adam (Community Development Planner). He probably put more time in this than anyone.”
