White Sox Reveal New Renderings of Forthcoming Stadium
Plans for a newly designed Chicago White Sox stadium along the river in Chicago's South Loop neighborhood were released on Saturday.
Canal Edge released renderings for the new stadium in the area known as "The Railyards," with a mixed-use space concept including retail and "potential healthcare offerings by Northwestern Medicine along the riverfront."
White Sox minority owner Justin Ishbia is a shareholder of Canal Edge, which has the riverside property under contract.
Back in March, CBS News Chicago reported Shore Capital, a private equity firm of the Sox's owner-in-waiting, Justin Ishbia, was in the process of buying a 47-acre Amtrak railyard.
University of Texas Unveils New Football Training Complex
The University of Texas unveiled its new football training complex Friday, a facility that officials and coaches said will help elevate a program already among the nation's most successful.
The Frank and Wofford Denius Texas Football Training Complex sits just south of Royal-Memorial Stadium along Robert Dedman Drive, on the site of the former Steve Hicks School of Social Work. It replaces Denius Field and the indoor practice bubble as the Longhorns' primary practice facility.
University of Texas System Board of Regents Chairman Kevin Eltife credited head coach Steve Sarkisian, athletic director Chris Del Conte and university President Jim Davis with elevating the athletic department.
Del Conte said the project stemmed from years of underinvestment in football facilities dating back to coach Darrell Royal's era, and he recounted Sarkisian once asking, during his hiring, whether it was true the team bused about a mile to practice on yellow school buses.
Mt. St. Mary's Breaks Ground on Rooney Athletic Performance Center
Mount St. Mary's Athletics gathered as a community to break ground on the Rooney Athletic Performance Center, an expansion to the Knott Arena, Recreation, and Convocation Complex (ARCC) at the PNC Sports Complex, on Wednesday, September 2.
The building is supported by generous donations from the Mount's supporter base, with the largest donation coming from Patrick and John Rooney, members of the Class of 1960. Members of the Rooney Family were in attendance, including Patrick's wife Sandra, their son Thomas and his wife Tara, and John's daughter Alice C'86 and her son Sean C'09.
"I hope it's not just a building; it's a destination." Mount St. Mary's President Gerard J. Joyce, Ph.D. said. "Students will come here to grow spiritually, physically, academically as student-athletes, but it will also make them better competitors and better leaders. So, it's more than just a space or a building – that something transformational happens here."
