Halloween weekend is the perfect time to explore the spookier side of sports, and a new ranking of the most haunted sports venues by The Sports Geek suggests AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, is the spookiest.
The Sports Geek used a sourced audit of 47 stadiums and arenas, ranking 10 venues in the US and Canada based on published folklore, age, nearby burial sites, historical events, and other haunting-related factors.
AT&T Stadium topped the rankings with a score of 62/100, receiving the highest possible score for published ghost stories.
Haunting accounts at the Cowboy's include workers reporting noises in restrooms after games, mysterious shadows, unexplained voices and approaching footsteps that suddenly stop.
One particularly eerie story involves a stadium kitchen, where employees reportedly witnessed dishes rising into the air before crashing to the floor, allegedly frightening some workers enough to quit on the spot.
Legendary coach Tom Landry features in the stadium’s supernatural folklore. Staff have reported an unexplained cold spot near the room named in his honor, fueling speculation that his spirit still lingers there.
The Sports Geek also notes that the stadium also has a tragic history, including the death of electrician Timothy Mackinnon during construction in 2008, although no connection to the reported hauntings has been established.
The top 10 most haunted venues are as follows:
AT&T Stadium
Dodger Stadium
Wrigley Field
Nationwide Arena
Fenway Park
Caesars Superdome
Comerica Park
Old Highmark
Lambeau Field
Bell Centre
