Facility Friday: Army West Point Stadium, Community Athletic Center

The U.S. Military Academy at West Point announced a new partnership with hospitality and premium experience company Legends to develop parts of Michie Stadium, home to the Army football program. The project will introduce premium areas, including suite, loge and club level seating and complete the planned modernization of the East Stands. Additionally, Legends will manage sales and marketing, business intelligence, and data analytics services. — GoArmyWestPoint.com 

The USTA Foundation, Tiger Woods’ TGR Foundation, the Walt Disney Company, philanthropist Doug Kimmelman and the Karsh Family Foundation have committed $50 million to support the construction of the Carson, Calif.-based Carol Kimmelman Athletic and Academic Campus. The facility will be one of the largest sports complexes in the country, with plans for a 40-court tennis facility, basketball courts, full-sized soccer fields, track and field areas and fitness space for community use. A focal point, however, will be the learning complex — focused on STEM education and intended to complement the public school curriculum. The project will be completed in phases, but construction is expected to begin prior to the end of 2020, with the goal of beginning to operate in 2021. — USTA.com 

St. Peter’s University (N.J.) has begun a $5 million renovation of its Yanitelli Recreational Life Center. The new renovation will include modern basketball and volleyball arenas, including new flooring, retractable bleachers, enhanced lighting and new video boards. — JerseyDigs.com

Pittsburg, Calif., approved a plan for a $3 million youth recreation center on Monday, contingent on another plan to develop 1,500 homes in the area. The proposed 45,000-square-foot recreation center with basketball, pickleball and volleyball courts would be built at John Henry Johnson Park. The plan is part of the town’s goal of providing more for youths in the community, who make up 35 percent of the local population. — East Bay Times
