The umpired apparently ordered players off the field, and the crowd was made aware of the situation through messages posted on the stadiumās video board.Ā
The Reds utility man Derek Dietrich donned an exterminatorās outfit and put on a show for the crowd but really did nothing to disperse the bees, which eventually left of their own accord.
DeadSpin reports that it was not the first bee delay in Giants-Reds history. On April 17, 1976, the two teams wereĀ delayed for 35 minutesĀ by an estimated 5,000-10,000 honeybees.
