Officials in Oklahoma City are boosting the budget for a new multipurpose stadium by $30 million.
The stadium price tag is now projected at $71 million total, KOKH-TV reported Tuesday.
The Oklahoma City Council's action didn't concern the new arena for the Oklahoma City Thunder. The multipurpose stadium under development — funded through the Metropolitan Area Projects initiative — is more geared toward soccer.
Officials considered two different visions for the facility — one smaller, the other larger, and with more offerings.
The mayor told KOKH-TV that going with the bigger option delivers a better product to residents — as opposed to a stadium about the size of one able to be found at a Texas high school.
Officials plan for the stadium to be used for professional soccer, concerts and more.
The Energy Football Club is eyeing Tuesday's developments amid an ongoing suspension of play over not having a regulation venue, KOKH-TV reported.
Officials expect to have a stadium design finalized by the beginning of 2025 and for construction to be completed by the middle of 2026.
