Former Utah State football player Kevin Andrew Whimpey was arrested Tuesday for breaking into Maverick Stadium and driving his truck onto the turf while allegedly under the influence.
According to the arrest affidavit, which was obtained by the Cache Valley Daily, Utah State and Logan City police received a report from a 911 caller around 8:30 a.m. Jan. 30. The citizen had witnessed a truck drive onto the field and park near the 50-yard-line. The suspect then exited the vehicle and began dancing on the field.
Dispatchers from 911 were able to view security cameras at the stadium and verify the caller's report.
When officers arrived at the scene, Whimpey was outside the truck with the driver's door open and the engine still running. Police reported that he was kneeling on a yoga mat located at the 50-yard-line and allegedly exhibited signs of impairment.
Whimpey told officers he had marijuana in a bag on the field and had been snorting lines of ketamine. Officers found marijuana, drug paraphernalia and prescription bottles in the bag. Whimpey later tested positive for THC. Whimpey was also wearing a tracking ankle bracelet.
Police later discovered that Whimpey is on probation after being convicted of attempted distribution of pornography, criminal mischief and damaging a jail cell. He previously served 116 days in Utah County Jail.
Whimpey was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, criminal trespass, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, all class B misdemeanors. He is currently being held without bail.
Whimpey joined the Aggie football team in 2011 after transferring to Logan from Idaho State University. He played left tackle for four season through 2014, before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers for one season in 2015. He returned to Utah State as a radio color analyst during the 2017 season.
