Following public criticism last week of the Kansas City Current's intention of charging $50 per space per game to park at matches this season, the team's PR department on Sunday sent an updated release to all season-ticket holders to further explain the “sustainable and accessible transportation options that are available to you.”
As reported by CBS affiliate KCTV, there are three main options:
- On-Site Parking: “On-site parking passes, offering the quickest way to CPKC Stadium’s gates, are very limited. Season parking passes are exclusively available to KC Current Season Ticket Members starting on Monday, Feb. 26. Limited single-match parking will be on sale at a later date,” the release stated. In addition,
- Off-Site Parking: Fans can utilize standard street, lot, or garage parking in Downtown KC. From there, they have several options to arrive at CPKC Stadium:
- Walk: Starting at the Town of Kansas Bridge, which is located at 2nd and Main Street off the River Market, it’s about a one-mile walk down the Berkley Riverfront Trail to CPKC Stadium.
- Bike: CPKC Stadium will offer free, secure bike valet services for fans. For cyclists who will be utilizing public transportation at any point, all KC buses are equipped with bike racks and bikes are allowed in the middle car of the streetcar.
- Bus: RideKC is free and has multiple lines running through the River Market Neighborhood
- On 3rd at Grand - Southbound stop services the 10, 55, 77, 85, 103, and 201 bus routes.
- On 5th at Grand - Northbound services the 10, 85, and 201 bus routes.
- Streetcar: Eventually, the streetcar will be extended to the Berkley Riverfront. The groundbreaking for that portion of the streetcar extension is set for Friday, March 1, 2024, and is not anticipated to be running until next year. Until then, KC Current says they will “cover the last stretch of the fan journey,” via shuttles. Exact details on shuttle services will be available at a later date.
- Ride Share: There will be designated pick-up and drop-off locations for fans using ride-share services.
Last Wednesday, the team announced that the stadium’s limited number of general-admission parking spots will each cost $50 per match. Including taxes and fees, that would come to $952 for the season — just to park on a gravel lot.

"Some fans feel like the price is “a little steep,” when factoring in the cost of match tickets and concessions for an entire family," reported KCTV's Zoë Shriner. "Others think it’s reasonable, given how much it costs to go to NFL football games and how many people are willing to pay for that. Others yet are worried about the potential for a surge in illegal parking or that they may lose access to their own residential street parking on KC Current gamedays."
The Current will play its first home game next month at CPKC Stadium, the world's first stadium built for a women's professional sports team.
