Residents of the Willis Independent School District will be voting on more than local officials and the presidential election this November, but whether or not they'd approve of a $115.4-million bond package to upgrade the school district's athletic facilities.
This package notably includes a $68.8-million proposition for a new athletic complex and community room. If approved, Willis ISD will have one of the most expensive high school football stadiums in Texas. Cy-Fair's 11,000-seat FCU Stadium, which opened in 2006, cost $80-million and is the most expensive on record. Katy ISD's Legacy Stadium, which opened in 2017, is second-most expensive at $70.3-million. Nearby Conroe's Woodforest Bank Stadium ranks fifth at $49 million, opening in 2008. [CHRON]
The University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS) hosted a ribbon cutting for the new Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium on Friday October 11th.
The new stadium features a new video score board, new surfaces both track and turf, and a fan zone with will be a family-oriented space.
The project was a 6-year process from start to finish and UWS hopes the stadium will do more than just benefit their athletic teams.
“We really think that this is a facility of opportunity and it’s going to support more than just our athletic teams, it will also support recreational opportunities for all students,” said Nick Bursik UWS Director of athletics. “We’re really excited as a campus to see the impact that it will have and the opportunities it will help generate. But we also know too that it also can benefit the community. And we really are looking forward to partnering with some community-based organizations to help ensure that the stadium is in use almost all year round.“ [WDIO]
