Few NFL teams have the reputation of enduring the elements more than the Buffalo Bills, whose highlights throughout history are often obscured by steady snowfall.
Snow will still fall on the field at the Bills' new Highmark Stadium, currently under construction, but fans will be protected like never before.
As reported by Randy Gurzi for Sports Illustrated, the new stadium features a canopy that will cover most fans from the elements, while snow and rain will still be allowed to impact the game. "What won’t impact the game, however, is massive wind gusts, Gurzi wrote.
During the season premier episode of HBO's "Hard Knock," Bills quarterback Josh Allen provided a tour of new Highmark, during which team owner Terry Pegula explained to Allen that the stadium was designed to keep wind out and how the wind would circle around the stadium if not for the engineering efforts.
Specifically, the stadium uses strategically placed perforated panels and precise architectural calculations to control wind on the field, as reported by Yahoo Sports.
These efforts by architect Populous to "silence" the wind should be music to Allen's ears. The MVP-winning quarterback has averaged just 7.4 yards per passing attempt of the past five seasons in games played at old Highmark, located across the street.
