Acrisure Stadium officials are breaking from the venue's classic sea of yellow seating, announcing that they will add the Steelers' complementary black in the upper deck.
“We were making changes to the seating,” Steelers owner Art Rooney told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “The sea of gold sometimes gets overwhelming, so we did a little black and gold in there this time around.”
Acrisure currently has a seating capacity of 68,000 and the Sports & Exhibition Authority board announced in October that they will spend $6 million to replace about 22,000 seats that were in disrepair.
By 2029, the agency — which officially owns the stadium — will replace more than 58,000 outdoor seats.
The move comes after Pitt, which also plays at Acrisure, announced in January that capacity would be altered for their season. Starting this fall, the stadium’s upper east and west sides will be unavailable, reducing capacity from 68,400 to 51,416.
“Throughout last season, our administrative team carefully observed every aspect of the gameday experience and identified key enhancements for 2026,” athletic director Allen Greene said in a statement at the time. “Our goal is clear: transform Pitt football into a must-attend event, not just another game on the schedule. Today’s announcement is just the first step in showing we’re committed to being both creative and bold in pursuing every opportunity that strengthens our program.”
