The University of Iowa athletics department is bringing a piece of Iowa basketball history to Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
According to Hawkeye Sports, the athletics department has purchased the court from this year’s NCAA Houston Regional Elite Eight men’s game. The maple-wood court, manufactured by Connor Sports, will arrive at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on May 18th.
From there, the floor will be installed and prepped for painting next week. At the end of May, workers will paint and seal the new floor.
Carver-Hawkeye Arena last replaced its basketball court in 2016, and it has reached the end of its lifecycle. The acquisition of the Elite Eight court marks the first time since Carver-Hawkeye Arena opened in 1983 that the “parquet layout will be replaced with a modern, single-surface design.”
“The upgrade ensures a high-performance surface for student-athletes, while introducing a visual update inside the venue,” the department said to KCRG news.
Along with the new court, Iowa Athletics is also preserving pieces of the court to create commemorative memorabilia for fans.
Iowa Athletics has entered into a naming rights deal for the new court with Mediacom.
