[Vancouver, BC, May 5, 2014] The International Council on Active Aging® (ICAA) is once again challenging individuals and organizations across North America to tap into their right brains and come up with ways to motivate older adults to live fuller lives.

This year's theme - Let the Adventure Begin - encourages organizers and participants to explore life's many possibilities.

Whether it's tai chi, dancing, brain games, a mountain hike or picking up a new hobby, Active Aging Week® activities should be fun, social and stimulating. They should also be free or low cost, educational, and presented in a safe, fun and friendly atmosphere.

Past events have included group walks, health fairs, dances, fitness classes, concerts and museum trips. Most have been held in parks, malls, YMCAs and JCCs, health clubs, seniors centers, apartments, senior living communities and various other sites.

This year, Active Aging Week will take place from September 21 to 27. Organizations interested in staging an event are encouraged to register with ICAA as an official host site. ICAA will offer guidance and suggestions, while hosts decide for themselves the nature, frequency, venue(s) and other details of their events.

Meanwhile, returning hosts will be challenging themselves to raise the bar by attracting more participants than ever.

Held each year during the last week of September, Active Aging Week helps spread the ICAA message that adults ages 50 and older are fully participating members of society - while promoting the benefits of leading an active, healthier lifestyle.

The week-long observance further highlights the ability of older adults to live well, regardless of age or health conditions.

The sponsors of this year's Active Aging Week are:

Aegis Therapies, EnerG by Aegis, Falls Free, National Council on Aging, Performance Health Systems, Silver Sneakers, The Institute for Preventive Foot Health (IPFH), Thorlo, Inc.
