MISSOULA, MT, September 8, 2014 – Spectrum Aquatics, a leading manufacturer of commercial pool equipment, has recently developed a retractable, anti-slip backstroke start “wedge” (patent pending) designed to improve start times and reduce the possibility of slip starts for competitive backstroke swimmers. Spectrum’s innovative backstroke wedge is currently available for order and will be on display at this year’s 2014 ASCA World Clinic in Jacksonville, FL.
Feedback from elite backstroke swimmers was sought in order to develop a device that best suits their needs, and Spectrum has optimized the product design to comply with FINA recommendations.
Spectrum’s backstroke start device is compatible with starting platforms from several manufacturers and works with many pool configurations (some instances of customization may be necessary). It is also easily adjustable, and automatically retracts up and out of the water so as not to interfere with flip turns and touchpad interactions. The device can be secured by one of three mechanisms: 1. A buckled strap that attaches around the starting platform frame, 2. Pop-up anchors that attach to the pool wall, or 3. Custom attachment methods developed in-house for unique situations.
