Woodinville, WA and Los Angeles, CA - IHRSA 2015 (Booth #1744) - March 12, 2015 - Precor®, a leading commercial and home fitness equipment manufacturer, today introduced four redesigned pieces of Discovery™ Series plate-loaded strength equipment. The new designs combine the functional performance elements exercisers of all experience levels are looking for with the design and attention to detail that operators need to attract and retain members.

“Recently, strength training has gained popularity, so it's critical for facilities to have strength pieces that appeal to a wide range of exercisers,” said Pete Borchert, Senior Product Manager for Precor Strength. “The Discovery Series plate-loaded equipment is inviting and intuitive for those who are new to strength training, but also incorporates features that the most experienced exercisers demand.”

The redesigned Discovery plate-loaded equipment builds on the Precor portfolio of strength products, and includes:

  • The Smith Machine: The Smith Machine welcomes users with its open walk-through design. The ergonomically designed 11-degree frame angle optimizes the way a user's body moves naturally through a squat movement. At 25 pounds, the bar assembly provides a comfortable starting point for new exercisers.
  • Angled Leg Press:  With an open, clear entry and exit, the Angled Leg Press provides a unique curved footplate for greater comfort and stability for users of all sizes. Foot-activated seat back adjustment makes personalization quick and easy. Weight plate storage is optimized for easy loading and unloading.
  • Squat Machine: The large, open, non-skid foot platform allows users to maintain a natural ground-based position for optimal core and lower body engagement. The Movement Arm allows for unique, side-to-side and rotational movement which requires greater stabilization and balance from the user while providing a guided path of motion. The rotating shoulder pads are angled to optimize ergonomics and maintain the same position throughout the exercise movement, delivering fit and comfort for the user.
  • Hack Squat: The unique “Hip Sled” design prevents loading of the spine throughout the exercise, for an effective and comfortable experience. The expanded open entry/exit area and new curved foot platform provides a comfortable and stable position for users of different heights.

“Strength training equipment is an essential component of any fitness facility, but I have found that many expensive pieces go unused because exercisers find strength equipment intimidating or too complicated to operate,” said John Meeks, co-owner and head coach of CrossFit Greensboro. “The approachable design of the Discovery plate-loaded line eliminates these barriers, making strength training feasible for a wider range of exercisers and ensuring that the equipment gym owners have invested in actually gets used.”

The Smith Machine will be available in May 2015 and the Angled Leg Press will be available in September 2015. The Hack Squat and Squat Machine will become available during Q4 2015.
