MINNEAPOLIS (April 13, 2015) — The Minnesota Park and Sports Turf Managers Association presented the 2014 Field of the Year award to the City of Lakeville’s Steve Michaud Park. The annual award, sponsored by Turfco®, recognizes athletic facilities in the state for their outstanding maintenance, aesthetics and overall playing conditions. Representatives from the City of Lakeville park maintenance staff accepted the award last month at the annual MPSTMA meeting in Minneapolis.
“The facilities at Steve Michaud Park are among the highest caliber in the state,” said Gregg Brodd, presenter of this year’s award and regional sales manager for Turfco. “Sports teams can expect premier and consistent playing conditions at the park, and its fields have set the bar for other recreational areas in the region.”
Athletic facilities at Steve Michaud Park currently include 11 soccer fields and one baseball field. Each season the park hosts more than 1,500 soccer games and 2,600 hours of game and practice time. The facility also includes a community playground, park building and concession area and hosts many summer camps, recreation programs, and community functions throughout the year.
“This award recognizes our city and park staff’s commitment to providing Lakeville with safe, first-class facilities that can be used by athletes, parents, and community members,” said Mark Kruse, Sports Turf Manager and Parks Supervisor at Steve Michaud Park. “We are honored to accept this award from fellow industry leaders and our peers.”
Turfco has sponsored the annual Field of the Year award with MPSTMA for the past 5 years. Nominations for the 2015 Field of the Year award can be submitted online through October 15 at mpstma.org/foy.htm. Recipients are chosen based on resourcefulness of staff, budget and maintenance practices, condition and aesthetics of the field, and total number of games played at the facility. Last year’s Field of the Year award was given to Minnesota State Mankato’s Blakeslee Stadium.
