MOUNT LAUREL, N.J., April 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The NFL Alumni Association (NFLA) today announced a partnership with NFL Player Care Foundation (NFL PCF) to help support one of the NFL PCF's hallmark programs – the Healthy Body and Mind Screening program.
"The NFL Player Care Foundation has done a remarkable job with making these screenings available to thousands of former players across the country. We are eager to team up and expand the reach of this program and continue helping NFL alumni with their health needs," said Joe Pisarcik, NFLA President and CEO. "Our goal is to help improve the quality of life for former players through health and wellness programs, education advancement, financial resources and networking, and these screenings are an outstanding complement to our initiatives."
The Healthy Body and Mind Screening program provides NFL alumni with free screenings for cardiovascular and prostate disease, as well as mental health education and awareness programming. The format also allows players to socialize and re-connect as they did in the locker room, as they manage their health needs. With consent from former players participating in screenings, clinical information gathered may also be used for important research initiatives that may lead to advances that improve the lives of NFL retirees.
"Uniting two leaders in the NFL alumni community will positively impact our ability to better serve and assist former players," said Dana Lihan, NFL Player Care Foundation's Program Director. "With the support of the NFL Alumni, we are excited to see the screening program grow."
The screening program's current medical partner is the Tulane University School of Medicine. Ten screenings are planned around the country this year.
The next four screenings are scheduled for:
- April 17-18 in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL
- May 1 in Pittsburgh, PA
- July 11 in Seattle, WA
- August 8 in Canton, OH
