Iowa State University Continues Creative Partnership With Daktronics

BROOKINGS, S.D. (December 10, 2015) – Iowa State University has continued their partnership with Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) Creative Services of Brookings, South Dakota, for digital content and animations to be used during football events at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa, including a new end zone display and ribbon board along the sidelines installed this past summer. This year’s work marks the eighth year of the Daktronics and Iowa State partnership.

Jack Trice Stadium now has mirroring displays at each end of the field and 1,246 feet of ribbon boards along the sidelines. Needing content for these displays, Daktronics Creative Services team started conversations with Iowa State early in the process to plan for programming, layouts and content types thus allowing ample time to sell and prepare sponsorship content as well.

“The landscape at Jack Trice Stadium changed dramatically this season with the completion of the South End Zone Project,” said Nathan Terry, associate director of marketing at Iowa State University. “The aim of the $60 million project was not just to increase capacity but to also enhance the game-day environment. The addition of the video board and the ribbon boards have truly transformed the fan experience. We have worked with the Daktronics Creative Services team to develop video board content for many years. They have always delivered in a timely fashion with a high level of creativity.”

Designing a logo animation as a guide became the key to success for the entire content package.

“The university decided to introduce a completely new style of content to introduce their fans to the stadium upgrades and they wanted that new look and feel to provide some overall excitement for the season,” said Bryan Perry, Daktronics event producer on site at Iowa State University. “The school challenged our artists to create something sharp and clean for the logo treatment. Once that was nailed down, we started the process of expanding the package to other content pieces.”

Aside from the logo treatment, other content provided included headshots, crowd prompts and other game-day messages for the video and ribbon displays at Jack Trice Stadium.

“We’ve heard great things about the content, specifically the ribbon board headshots,” added Perry. “The movement and presence of them seemed to be a crowd favorite that really made an impact when shown during the game.”

“The content was built to reflect the university’s goals for engaging their fans on game day,” said Ellen Sandager, Daktronics Creative Services account manager. “The university relied on us to ensure the content complimented the experience they’d been building over the past few years and that everything fit their displays to really light everything up in a positive way.”

Providing Iowa State University with content that fit their brand and goals led to a successful first season with new displays and a new look and feel inside their football stadium on game days.

Daktronics also provides live event support and content for Iowa State’s men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, gymnastics and wrestling. Each sport receives a custom intro video and headshots for every season.
