CHICAGO (Dec. 16, 2015) --Connor Sports presented the inaugural Lauren Hill Connor Sports Award at Mt. St. Joseph (OH) University on December 12 during the school’s women’s basketball game vs. Manchester (OH) University.

The award was developed by Connor Sports in partnership with the Mt. St. Joseph Development Department. The award will annually for five years provide a current MSJ student who displays excellent academic performance and community engagement with $1,000 in support of their education.

“When Connor Sports learned of the amazing and inspiring story of Lauren Hill and her courageous battle against the illness that eventually took her life, we asked Mt. St. Joseph University how we could help,” said Connor Sports President and GM Jon Isaacs. “We are proud to as a Connor Sports Champions of Community initiative, pledge to annually provide $1,000 to a deserving Mt. St. Joseph student as the recipient of the Lauren Hill Connor Sports Award and help play a small role in continuing to shine a light on the indomitable spirit of Lauren Hill and her incredible contribution to Mt. St. Joseph University and college basketball.”

The 2015 award recipient is current Mt. St. Joseph student Erija Nealeigh, a senior majoring in biology, who was joined by Lauren Hill’s mother Lisa at half-time of the Manchester game for a presentation of the award. Erijah was selected based on her consistent high academic performance and her campus and community leadership as a member of the MSJ Student Government Association.

“I am elated to receive the award. I think that Lauren Hill has given the Mount and everyone who has followed her story inspiration and a lot of opportunities and this is another one, so to be able to be one of the recipients and the first one is just amazing,” said Erija Nealeigh.

“It’s just an honor to have an award named after Lauren and the qualities and the good things she stood for, and to know that someone is striving equally as hard, It’s an honor to remember her name and her message to do your best every day and not quit,” said Lisa Hill.
