Eyewear Retailer Steps Up to the Plate With Children Across the Country

SAN ANTONIO (December 8, 2016) – In 2017, Visionworks is teaming up with Little League® to become the Official Eyewear and Eye Care Retailer of Little League Baseball and Softball. Together, the organizations will raise awareness about the importance of annual eye exams and protective eyewear for school-aged children, especially those children who play sports.

According to the American Optometric Association, vision plays an important role in how well children perform in outdoor games and sports. Playing catch in the backyard or participating in team sports at school requires clear distance vision, good depth perception, wide field of vision and effective eye-hand coordination.

“Knowing that vision is fundamental to kids’ success in school, and their performance on and off the playing field, is a compelling reason for our entire company to rally around this cause,” said Jim Eisen, president and CEO of HVHC Inc., and president of Visionworks. “We are committed to raising awareness of the importance of annual eye exams, and this year we’re excited to step up to the plate and go to bat for Little League members across the country.”

As the Official Eyewear and Eye Care Retailer of Little League, Visionworks has the unique opportunity to further the conversation about the importance of annual eye exams. Visionworks will work alongside Little League Baseball and Softball to provide offers for Little League families and stress the importance of proper vision being critical for your players’ experience. Visionworks will also work with Little League’s Urban Initiative program to provide vision assistance for underprivileged players and teams. To date, Little League’s Urban Initiative program has stimulated the participation of 4,000 teams and approximately 52,000 players. Additionally, Visionworks will be on-site during the Little League Baseball® World Series (LLBWS) in South Williamsport, Pa., from August 17 through 27, 2017. Families and spectators visiting the event will be able to visit Visionworks at the Family Fun Zone to learn more about how they can help keep their eyes healthy.

"We want our players to achieve their goals, both on the field and off, and getting an annual eye exam and a pair of glasses when necessary can help children be successful,” said Liz DiLullo Brown, Little League Vice President of Marketing and Communications. “Partnering with Visionworks as the Official Eyewear and Eye Care Retailer of Little League will encourage Little League families to stay on top of their game, including their eye health.”
