Helps Keep Wellness On Track & Improve Facility Operations
New Paltz, NY— Everyone could use a fitness and wellness boost after the indulgences of the holidays, and that’s exactly what SUNY New Paltz students, faculty, staff and alumni are getting as they return to campus after winter break.
Launched on campus at 5p.m. yesterday, upace is a new mobile app that gives users greater control over their exercise and provides data to operators of fitness and recreation facilities so they can create a better, more convenient exercise experience. upace Founder Rachel Koretsky was on campus for the launch, meeting with students, demonstrating the app and helping them get connected. In less than one hour, more than 100 students downloaded the app.
“We know the fitness challenges faced by the college student population because we ARE that population, and the hundreds of interviews we’ve conducted confirm that lack of convenience at the campus fitness center leads students to stop utilizing the facility altogether,” said Koretsky. “Our goal at SUNY New Paltz is to give the student body the ability to take control of their fitness lifestyle with absolute ease and convenience, while empowering the administration with concrete tools and data to enhance operations.”
Available in Apple and Google Play stores, the upace app is free to SUNY New Paltz students, faculty, staff and alumni. The company and the University worked closely to customize the application, ensuring it meets the University’s specifications and the needs of its fitness center users.
Unlike competitor apps, upace focuses on the whole fitness and recreation industry—colleges and universities, YMCAs, community rec centers, etc.—with a whole community approach (e.g., fitness & recreation, outdoor adventures, events, childcare). What’s more, upace boasts better customization, interactivity and UXD (user experience design). Only upace offers a full suite of capabilities, such as:
· Real-time facility occupancy & status information
· Class/event sign-up
· Equipment reservation
· Customized reminders & communication via push notifications & in-app alerts
· Facility data & analytics
· 24/7 administrative remote access & instantaneous customization
“The free apps in the marketplace don’t do enough, and the software that does everything is too expensive and excessive,” said Keith Kenney, SUNY New Paltz assistant director of athletics/director of wellness & recreation. “Simply put, upace fits our needs, and we know we can grow together with them.”
