INDIANAPOLIS, IN –Today, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and Polar, a leader in wearable sports and fitness technology, announced the launch of a new heart rate monitoring and assessment course.

The three-hour course, designed for fitness professionals and heart rate monitor users, provides a foundational knowledge of the physiology of heart rate, including how to perform maximal and sub-maximal VO2 field testing and how to build an effective heart rate-based training program. The course focuses on using the five heart rate training zones through the exercise disciplines of cycling and running. The course can be found on ACSM’s online training platform, ceOnline.

“As a global leader in the sports medicine industry, ACSM is constantly striving to create the highest quality, most comprehensive CEC opportunities,” said Jim Whitehead, CEO/EVP of the American College of Sports Medicine. “With more than 40 years of knowledge and expertise in heart-rate training, Polar’s heart rate technology continues to be an industry standard, and we are proud to collaborate with them to provide this educational opportunity.”

Fitness professionals will earn six continuing education credits and will receive an ACSM certification of completion.

“Polar is widely trusted for our heart rate technology and reliable data, but a major element that sets us apart is our focus on making that data actionable,” says Tom Fowler, president of Polar U.S. “Our partnership with the American College of Sports Medicine furthers our goal to improve the entire athlete experience, not only through our products, but also through our deep knowledge of heart rate training, the technology and science behind it, and the coaches, trainers and athletes benefitting from it. It’s important to understand what your heart rate data means, so we’re proud to present a course that empowers users to use this data to build effective training programs.”
