Daktronics of Brookings, South Dakota, recently hosted its 7th annual High School Video Summit, a nationwide event designed to bring together high school video production teams, educators and industry professionals for a day of learning, collaboration and inspiration.
This year’s summit drew 331 attendees to 14 host sites throughout the United States, with an average of 18 participants per location. The event provided a hands-on environment for educators and administrators to connect, share ideas and grow their skills in live event production.
"The High School Video Summit is one of my favorite events of the year,” said Kyle Sydow, Daktronics high school market manager.” It’s amazing to see educators and production teams come together to share ideas and grow their event productions. Our customers leave energized with new techniques, fresh perspectives and a stronger sense of community in this growing industry."
The summit featured presentations from professionals representing organizations such as the Minnesota Twins, Miami Heat and Miami Dolphins, as well as experienced high school production teams. Sessions covered a range of topics which include:
- Keynote Presentation: “Twins Win! You Betcha!” – Sam Henschen, Minnesota Twins
- Streaming and Control Room Best Practices
- Content Creation and Game-Day Scripting
- Monetizing Moments Through Sponsorship and Marketing
High school contributors also shared their expertise, including:
- How to Make Videoboards Work in Your School – Jenny Wagner, Centennial Public School
- Content Creation Tips – JB Starkey, Sturgis High School
- Game Day Scripting – Michael Logan, Prosper Independent School District
“I learned a lot of new things about my setup at Lincoln Park and am excited to try some new things,” said Kevin Magill of Lincoln Park Public Schools. ”I was also pleased to find out that I’m already doing a lot of things correctly by using the resources and customer services that are already available to me through Daktronics. It helped make my first year in my new position successful.”
Beyond the sessions, the summit fostered lasting connections among attendees, encouraging continued collaboration and mentorship beyond the event.
This year’s summit also marked the debut of the DakClassroom Student Showcase Awards, recognizing outstanding creativity, teamwork and technical skill in student-led productions. The awards celebrate the power of hands-on, real-world learning and the impact students and instructors have on game-day experiences across the country.
