The Fresno State athletic department posted to social media that more than 28% of attendees of last week's Shakira concert at Valley Children's Stadium traveled over 50 miles, bringing more than 9,700 out-of-area visitors to campus.

As reported by local ABC affiliate KFSN, Fresno State Athletics also estimates that over $2.1 million was spent by concert-goers.

The Thursday night concert drew some criticism for its organization and entry process, however. Some fans waited in long lines for hours just to get into the stadium, even missing parts of the concert, KFSN reported.

Fresno State Athletics issued an apology for the delays later that night, with athletics director Garrett Klassy saying the following day they will "keep learning and leveling up."

"Concerts are a different beast than football games," Klassy posted on social media Friday morning. "We learned we need a different approach and to deploy our resources differently. Our staff showed grit, resilience, and curiosity—and we’re a better department because of it. We’ll keep learning and leveling up. #GoDogs"
