A high school football coach has received an additional two-year probation from Texas' University Interscholastic League State Executive Committee.
This is the second time that Richard Bishop, who is also the athletic director at Westwood High School, has been in front of the committee.
According to KLTV, the purpose of the committee's meeting was to hear a violation that was brought forth in July. The DEC alleged that a seventh-grade student, who was not enrolled in Westwood ISD, participated in summer workouts for three weeks.
Bishop was placed on probation for the 2025-26 school year in October, stemming from allegations that Westwood was illegally filming their opponents. Bishop was also suspended the rest of the football season, which ended up being five games, and issued a public reprimand.
On Monday the committee voted to extend Bishop’s probation for two more years, through the 2027-28 school year. The committee also voted for Bishop to provide a written process to the UIL ensuring what they are changing their protocol, along with a public reprimand.
