A high school hockey team in Maine could face discipline after leaving the ice mid-game in protest of the officiating.
According to WABI, South Portland-Portland was playing Old Town-Orono last Saturday when South Portland-Portland left the ice with 10 minutes left in the game.
OTO's coach Scott Rhynold said he'd never seen such a move in all his years of coaching.
“This is why discipline is such an important part of hockey. This is why we come together and we fight as a team. We never give up because it’s such a bad look on everything involved. Having the video evidence really speaks to it. Having the players be so frustrated leaving the ice, you could tell that it wasn’t their decision. It was complete shock and disbelief and disappointment for my senior too on his senior night,” said Rhynold.
OTO was celebrating the team's senior night the night of the incident. Rhynold says the school is now looking to reschedule the senior night with another team.
