A high school principal in Rhode Island has been placed on leave after a student with special needs was assaulted in a locker room.
According to WJAR, an investigation into the incident at Roger High School revealed concerns "regarding student safety, staff awareness, administrative oversight and institutional culture."
Four students were arrested in connection with the case, and the incident was caught on camera.
Principal Jared B. Vance has been placed on leave for the remainder of the school year.
WJAR reported that the result of the investigation was 27 recommendations, including creating a student advisory board that meets with the school principal and developing accountability standards that addresses reasons behind student behavior and prioritize alternatives to suspension.
Officials said they will be taking other appropriate corrective action and will begin implementing recommendations from the report.
The committee will not be releasing the full report due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
