Homewood (Ala.) High School has been fined and placed on probation by the Alabama High School Athletics Association after the school self-reported a violation of the AHSAA video rule.
According to WBRC, AHSAA Contest Rules Section 23 stipulates that “A school or anyone representing the school may not video tape, record, internet stream, nor film any contest in which it is not involved unless it has received permission from both participating schools. No outside group or individual may video tape or film any contest without permission from all participating schools.”
Homewood High School reported to the AHSAA that a representative of the school recorded part of the Fort Payne vs. Mortimer Jordan baseball playoff series without obtaining permission from either school.
As a result, the AHSAA has fined Homewood High School and placed the school on probation. The head baseball coach, Lee Hall, has been suspended for the school’s next playoff series.
“We appreciate the administration for investigating and reporting this violation,” said AHSAA executive director Heath Harmon. “They have also taken steps to ensure this violation will not occur again. The probationary period is a warning that other violations like this could bring further sanctions against the school.”
Homewood will continue to compete in this week’s Class 6A playoff series against Fort Payne High School, but the team will do so without head coach Hall.
