The director of the Evansville (Ind.) Parks and Recreation Department has resigned amid an investigation into several irregular invoices.
According to Evansville mayor Lloyd Winnecke, the Evansville Police Department is looking into seven irregular invoices.
Winnecke was visibly choked up at an afternoon press conference, according to 44 News. The mayor announced the resignation of Brian Holtz, the executive director of the Evansville Parks Department.
Winnecke also noted that thus far the investigation has turned up no evidence of missing funds.
When asked about Holtz’s resignation, Winnecke said it was “personal and disappointing,” adding that he had “lost confidence” in Holtz’s ability to run the department.
Winnecke said the city plans to seek approval for funding to conduct an independent audit of the parks department, which would be separate from the current investigation being conducted by the police department.
