Prep Football Coach Placed on Leave Over Nude Photo

The head football coach at a high school in Mississippi has been placed on leave after a nude picture of him surfaced online.

According to The Meridian Star, the Meridian Public School District placed head football coach Martez Edwards on administrative leave without pay.

“The Meridian Public School District is aware of the inappropriate photo circulating of an MPSD employee,” read a statement issued by the school district. “The employee has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the school district.”

People within the district confirmed that a photo of what appeared to be a nude Edwards was shared Monday on social media.

Meridian athletic director Chuck Butler met with athletic staff members Monday and informed them of the decision.

Edwards was introduced as Meridian’s head football coach back in January. For the 91 days from Feb. 11 to June 30, Edwards was scheduled to be paid $44,000, according to his contract with the district.

This wouldn’t be the first time Edwards has seen trouble. He was arrested for third-degree domestic violence while serving as head coach at Bessemer City High School. He was reinstated two weeks later and the charges were dropped.

Meridian High School principal Victor Hubbard said he wasn’t aware of the domestic violence charge at the time of Edwards’ hiring.
