A Boston-area high school baseball coach who was accused of pulling a player off the field by his neck has been reinstated.
Long-time Xaverian High School baseball coach Gerry Lambert will be back in the dugout this season after he was placed on leave earlier this year due to an alleged altercation with a player.
According to a statement from the school which was reported by the local ABC affiliate, Lambert has “satisfied every request of the administration.”
According to police, Lambert was charged with assault and battery earlier this year after he was accused of assaulting one of his players at an April 10 game.
“We determined that there was some type of verbal argument between the player and the coach, which culminated in the coach coming out onto the field and grabbing his player by the back of the neck, and forcing him, or attempting to force him, off the field,” Westwood police Chief Jeffrey Silva said.
Lambert, a Xaverian alumnus of the class of 1988 and a veteran teacher, has coached baseball at the school since 2002. His teams have won two state championships.
