Power Five ADs Commit to Action on Climate

Four Power five athletic directors have signed the United Nations’ Framework Convention on Climate Change’s Sports for Climate Action Framework.

Ohio State AD Gene Smith, Rick George (University of Colorado), John Currie (Wake Forest) and Blake James (University of Miami), have signed onto the program.

Globally over 120 athletics programs such as the International Olympic Committee, FIFA, the NY Yankees, the NY Mets, the Golden State Warriors and the NBA have committed to the UN’s Sports for Climate Action Framework.

In the U.S., the University of Colorado Boulder was the first collegiate sports program to sign on. Now, The Ohio State University, Wake Forest University and the University of Miami are committing too.

By signing the Sports for Climate Action Framework, the ADs have committed to the following: 

  • Undertake systematic efforts to promote greater environmental responsibility
  • Reduce overall climate impact
  • Educate for climate action
  • Promote sustainable and responsible consumption
  • Advocate for climate action through communication
