A well-known swim coach in North Carolina has been suspended by USA Swimming pending an investigation by the U.S. Center for SafeSport into alleged misconduct.
Jeremy Gregory, 33, most recently worked at Mecklenburg Swim Association. He has been under investigation since July 6 for allegedly committing (an) act of fraud, deception or dishonesty in connection with a USA Swimming-related activity.
MSA head coach Peter Perers told The Charlotte Observer that Gregory was alleged to have violated a code of conduct “relating to inappropriate texting and communication.”
Gregory was named North Carolina Swimming Senior Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2019. He is no longer an employee of MSA, Perers told the Observer.
Prior to working at MSA, Gregory was employed by the Aquatic Team of Mecklenburg (ATOM) for almost six years before being terminated in February 2020, head coach and CEO of ATOM Shaynah Jerrell said.
Gregory was fired by ATOM for verbally abusing multiple swimmer, according to two people the Observer spoke with who had knowledge of the situation. Jerrell said that at the time there wasn’t enough information to report Gregory to USA Swimming.
