The Spartanburg (S.C.) County Sheriff's Office is investigating the alleged mishandling of thousands of dollars by a youth baseball team.
According to WYFF, the Caroline Braves travel team reported thousands of dollars missing, suspecting the money was mishandled by someone they trusted to manage the funds.
Team parents say the found out thousands of dollars went missing from the team's savings when it was time to pay bills.
The funds were generated through car washes, spirit nights, chocolate sales and other fundraising initiatives. The money was intended to cover travel costs, tournament fees and uniforms.
Twelve-year-old catcher and shortstop for the team Xander Glover said he's not ready for the season to be over. “It kind of tore me where it felt like we did all this work and we did these fundraisers and the money that we got didn't really go towards anything,” he said.
The team started a GoFundMe, asking to raise $8,500 so they can make it to an upcoming tournament in time.
