A youth sports organization in Honey Grove, Texas, this week reported missing $46,000 from its bank account, and the organization's secretary has been arrested.

The problem came to light when Honey Grove Youth Sports Association attempted to buy some equipment for the upcoming season and the credit card being used was declined.

Board members, including Honey Grove Police chief Leigh Dixon, called the bank and were told their account was in the red.

Dixon then called the Fannin County Sheriff's Office and an investigation was launched.

While DIxon said the discovery of the missing funds was devastating, he felt the community deserved to know what was happening.

“It was their money that was taken so I believe we need to be transparent on where their money went and who took it,” Dixon told KXII

While the investigation is ongoing, the prime suspect in the investigation is the secretary of the association.

Dixon said she was arrested Wednesday morning.

Going forward the association promises to “lay eyes on statements and written reports” more often.
