A New Jersey youth soccer coach has been charged with fourth degree simple assault after he kicked a youth soccer player from an opposing team who fell on the sidelines during a game.

According to NJ101.5, Gustavo Rosas Plata was the coach of the North Plainfield Soccer Elite when the incident occurred on Oct. 19 at the Warinanco Sports Center. Plata’s team was playing against Elizabeth Youth Soccer.

A player from the Elizabeth team fell near the Plainfield sideline, and Plata allegedly kicked the player while they were on the ground.

Video footage of the incident was reviewed and led to his arrest in late November.

According to Patch, Plata was released and is awaiting a court date in Superior Court.
