Jackson State University this week announced a new policy that will require media outlets to purchase credentials to record and use any footage of the school's famous marching band, the Sonic Boom of the South.
According to the Miami Herald, media outlets looking to exclusively capture footage of the band or the visiting band must pay for proper access, with regular credentials costing $300.
Media outlets that intend to stream footage of the band live will need to purchase a $500 credential. Failure to comply the policy will could result in immediate dismissal from the stadium grounds.
The Herald reports that the policy include strict guidelines around interacting with the bank. Media will be limited in where they can film from and are not allowed to interfere with the band at all.
The money garnered from purchase of the credentials will be used to support band members and provide financial benefits for the program.
JSU said it hopes the new initiative will be embraced by the media, adding that payments must be received three days prior to the event in order to receive credentials.
