University of Kansas athletic director Travis Goff has signed a seven-year contract extension that effectively doubles his base salary to $1.57 million by 2030-31, the school announced Wednesday.
As reported by The Lawrence Times, Goff, a KU alum who signed on to his self-described "destination job" in April 2021, had an existing salary of $700,000 per year on a five-year contract. The new agreement, which extends his contract through May 31, 2031, will increase his salary by $40,000 per year over the first three subsequent years, and by $50,000 per year for the latter three years.
Under the new title of Director of Athletics/Vice Chancellor for Athletics, Goff will also be eligible for annual bonuses of a maximum of 10 percent of his salary, as well as retention payments of $125,000 to $200,000 each year, the Times reported.
Goff said in a statement Wednesday that KU is responsible for many of the blessings in his life: “an exceptional student experience and degree, my passion for college athletics and the opportunity for my wife, Nancy, and I to raise our family in this community, amongst many others.
“I have the privilege to work with the best coaches and staff in the country, and together, we serve a remarkable university, passionate fanbase and, most importantly, 500 of the most inspiring young people in society – Jayhawk student-athletes."
KU chancellor Douglas Girod said in the release that Goff has proven to be among the most respected athletic directors in the country.
“He has established a culture of excellence and integrity within Kansas Athletics — and done so while navigating unprecedented changes to the collegiate athletics landscape and positioning KU for long-term success,” Girod said. “We are thrilled he’s a Jayhawk, and we look forward to his leadership for years to come.”
