The University of North Carolina has placed football general manager Michael Lombardi on paid administrative leave.
According to ESPN, UNC announced Lombardi's leave effective immediately but did no disclose any additional details on the matter.
Sources told ESPN's Peter Thamel the school's decision stems from a human resources complaint filed by a former UNC front office employee. The source said there is a pending investigation into the matter.
"As is standard procedure with personnel matters, leadership, staff, and student-athletes are prohibited from addressing this topic further, and has no reflection on the merits," the school said in a statement.
Lombardi, who serves as top aide to head football coach Bill Belichick, joined UNC in December 2024, reuniting with the six-time Super Bowl-winning coach. Lombardi worked under Belichick with the New England Patriots from 2014 to 2016, and earlier with the Cleveland Browns starting in 1987.
UNC went 4-8 last season under and did not have any players selected in this year's NFL draft.
