West Virginia assistant football coach Noel Devine has been placed on indefinite leave after being charged over the weekend with felony strangulation.
According WTAE, head football coach Rich Rodriguez released the following statement in response to the incident:
"Upon receiving information of the arrest, I have immediately and indefinitely put Noel Devine on leave from the Mountaineer football coaching staff. Any future decision on his status will be determined after more information becomes available."
The circumstances surrounding his arrest have not been made available at this time.
Devine was booked in the North Central Regional Jail on Sunday, and his bail has been set at $40,000. His preliminary hearing has been set for Sept. 23.
The 38-year-old has been on the West Virginia coaching staff since 2025 and has served as the team's assistant running backs coach and offensive analyst.
Devine was a three-year starter at running back for the Mountaineers. He compiled 19 100-yard rushing games and had more than 1,000 all-purpose yards in all four seasons from 2007-10.
