The head football coach at a high school in Portland, Ore., is under investigation after he was accused of waking up players on his team by shaking and slapping them early in the morning during a multi-day overnight football camp.
McMinnville Police Department was called to a the Linfield University Campus, where the camp was taking place, around 4:30 a.m. to do a "welfare check."
According to KGW, the police department did not identify the name of the coach accused but reported that he is also a police officer with the Hillsboro Police Department and added that the matter is under investigation to determine if there are any criminal offenses.
The Oregon School Activities Association lists Jamal Jones as head coach of Westview High School's football program. The Beaverton School District confirmed Tuesday that Jones has been placed on administrative leave, pending an investigation.
The Hillsboro Police Department said it is aware of the allegations against one of their officers but noted that he was not "acting in the capacity of a Hillsboro employee" at the time.
Jones was in his first years as head football coach at Westview. He previously was the head coach at Franklin High School in Portland and at Arcata High School in California, where he was the head coach for six years.
