
Ten track and field coaches from Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, Colo., have been terminated over apparent "violations of district policy."
According to the Fort Collins Coloradoan, the Poudre School District on Tuesday sent an email to Rocky Mountain High School track and field families.
"We are writing to inform you of a change in the coaching team of our track and field program," the statement said in part. "Due to a personnel matter involving a violation of district policy, some of the individuals previously serving as coaches are no longer employed with the district. Please note that no students were involved."
The district said it cannot comment on the specifics of the violations.
District spokesperson John Cope confirmed to the Coloradoan that 10 coaches were terminated on Tuesday, and all coaches' names were removed from the team site on Wednesday evening.
DJ Asevedo, who was listed as a long and triple jump coach on the team's site, and Jonathan Avila, who was listed as a coach for junior varsity high jump and functional strength, were the only two of 12 track and field coaches who were not terminated.
Conrad Crist, the current assistant principal and athletic director is currently leading the team. He has has 20 years of experience as a coach, including 16 years as a head coach and four years as an assistant coach. Crist will be come principal next year.
Crist said he is currently working to find replacements for those coaches who were fired.
"Our top priority is the wellbeing of our student-athletes and we are committed to providing continued support to ensure their growth and training during this transition," Cope wrote in an email to the Colorodoan. "Track and field practices are continuing as scheduled."
